Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah going nowhere

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has rubbished reports he is considering to step down as Black Stars coach over the appointment of an expatriate technical director to supervise his work.

The 54-year-old is expected back in the country by this weekend after an extensive break following Ghana’s disastrous campaign at the 2014 World Cup.

Appiah was unable to lead his side past the group stage of the tournament staged in Brazil much to the dismay of many Ghanaians.

The ex Black Stars captain is however on the verge of sealing a two-year extension to his expiring contract with the Ghana FA.

Some sections of the Ghanaian media however believe Appiah does not deserve the extension for his team’s failure at the World Cup.

Kwesi Appiah had already agreed in principle to sign a contract extension with the Ghana FA before taking his team to the World Cup in June.

Reports fast gaining currency however suggests the ex Asante Kotoko player will step down once the appointment of a technical director is announced to him as one of the conditions over his ‘revised’ contract when he arrives.

This arrangement, according to the report will be flatly rejected by the Ghanaian trainer and will result in his resignation if it is insisted upon.

But coach Kwesi Appiah speaking exclusively to GHANAsoccernet.com insists he has no intentions of quitting the Black Stars job.

“I am on holiday now and nothing has happened between the GFA and me so why will I resign?” he said in response to the fast circulating reports of his imminent resignation.

“These media reports are not correct as nothing will push me to quit.”

Appiah has been partly blamed for Ghana’s poor showing at the 2014 World Cup with critics suggesting he is not strong enough to deal with the various egos in the Black Stars team.

Serbian coach Ljubinko Drulovic has reportedly opened talks with the Ghana FA to become the new technical director.

    U should not cry but just laugh @ GSN’s funny way of reporting. They should have said this;
‘AA has rubbished GSN’s report that he is considering BS as coach over the engangement of TD’
AA like all Ghanaians want a job to feed their families and fight poverty, HIV, Ebola etc, which are sending some Ghanaians into asylum. So he can’t step down.

  5. Canadian says:

It’s about the money for AA.He knows deep down he is not up to the task.At least he stands to pocket close to $900,000 in two years.
Where would he earn such salary?he was earning about £600 as a security man in London which is roughly $800 per calendar month. Now he is going to earn about $38000 per month plus free bussiness class travel and five star hotels plus the fact that throughout the 12 months he will actually be working activity 2 months, the ten months is just chilling around ,travelling with a assumption of monitoring players.AA will not quit even if he is made a cleaner of the black stars,as long as he gets his $36k.AA has no pride or shame.
Keshi is African champion coach plus he did better in Brazil than AA yet he has resigned. This is what you call dignity .AA hasn’t any.

‘AA has rubbished GSN’s report that he is considering quiting BS as coach over the engangement of TD’
AA like all Ghanaians want a job to feed their families and fight poverty, HIV, Ebola etc, which are sending a lot of Ghanaians into asylum. So he can’t step down.

Black man and mental slavery. Hmmm. Appointing a white man yo supervise AA because we can’t trust the competence of a black coach. No wonder, whites look down on us.

    • Anokwale says:

      Assisi:

You have it right. This is typical behavior. If this is what makes people happy so be it. However, I hope the same critics attack the technical director if Ghana does not win the AFCON.

  8. papa nkrumah says:

Who is shocked that AA won’t quit? That NOTHING will make him give up the post. You’ve just got to admire the man’s determination.

  9. osei says:

Akwesi Appiah wont resign and Ghana don’t need a technical director. FOR WHAT?
    follow @Dadakwadwo

  10. spellBOUND says:

Of course he has no intension of quiting. what sensible FA president will hire him? TWEEAAAAAAA.

  11. selfmade says:

AA don’t quit and stand your grounds! if u quit, u wldnt get your entitlements due u!! Let them fire or sack u and u can take them to court after all some good for nothing foreign coaches has sued us for huge amount of our monies from time immemorial though they suck as hell!

For me, u are 90% better than all these Serbian so called coaches who we hired!!

Again, can anyone tell me which white coach has won us any title or trophy?

They are all good diggers with no title to show for it!! All our football glories were achieved with indigenous coaches!!

  12. selfmade says:

We are going for a Serbian who happens to be an interim coach? Mediocrity atbit best?

What has Serbian achieved in the international stage?

Did Serbia even qualify to the WC?

What are local Serbian coaches contributions to their domestic league in terms of uefa and Europa?

Omg is really amazing that our retarded educated fools can’t even thinks beyond their brains cranium!!

When all serious football countries are lauding and applauding Germany for their football and urging its member fa to learn from Germany, our inept, dull sugar daddies who are still living in the medieval or gold coast era, are going to spend hard bucks on a Serbian coach to be our technical director, when his counyry cldnt even qualify to the WC!!!

We are nation of jokers, lead by a bunch of clueless Buffon’s!!

    • anokwale says:

You are correct. Ghanaians do not want realize that the teams from the Balkan region, (Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro) are dealing with problems similar to the top African sides. In fact, I will put those teams and top African sides in the same category with regards to performance. I have no problems with the Serbians but at this stage of history, I do not think they can add much. Back in the days of the former Yugoslavia it might have been a different story, but at this point, no one should get over excited about a Serbian technical director.

  13. selfmade says:

As a Ghanaian, I fear our LEADERS THINKING ABILITIES THAN I FEAR THE ATOMIC BOMB!

  14. mukmin says:

@ selfmade both Serbs that took Ghana to the world cup in 06 achieved better results that AA and that is a historical fact one went to the round of 16 and other could have led us into the semis if Gyan did not miss a last minute pk. What did AA achieve with possibly our best and deepest squad ever assembled at the world cup? 1 point and conceded 6 goals in 3 games if you think this is better than or the same as the Serbs achieved then you are clearly deluded. AA must go we need results and his results speak for themselves.

    • Boss says:

Thank you mukmin.Selfmade and his likes can go around saying AA is better than all serbians atc but the facts are there for all to see.I wonder what the likes of selfmade would have said if a foreign coach took us to 2014 WC and came back with 1 point. If you appoint a coach and ask for support for him just because he is Ghanaian without looking at his capabilities you will always be disgraced in front of the whole world. At least non of the serbs kept his best players on the bench hoping for the opponents to get tired.

  15. Benito says:

Even if appiah is paid $5000 as black stars coach he will still not quit

  16. Edem says:

Everyone comes here and talks shit; fire him, keep him, help him (AA that is). If the players believe AA has the core competency for the job, they would be standing in front of him saying no changes needed. Hell, they would be making statements in the media or via their publicist or their paid GSN goons who call themselves journalist but are more like bloggers. Ha
I mean no offences but the spelling and grammatical errors of 70% of these articles make you bloggers. I do appreciate that you have to create content daily but surely you can have a second pair of eyes check your articles.

  17. PAA says:

SAY THAT AGAIN BOSS.AA HAS BEEN CAPT OF KOTOKO, CAPT OF THE BLACKSTARS ,ASSISTANT COACH TO TWO COACHES,BEEN TO WC 2010,NATIONS CUP ,BORN AND BREAD IN GHANA WITH WITH NUMEROUS PLAY TIME [CAPS]YET STILL FAILED.OVER TO US GHANA WE LAID THIS BED WE MUST AS WELL SHUT UP AND MOURN FOR THE NEXT TWO SOILED YEARS OF FOOLISHNESS,A COUCH WHOSE TWO FAVORITE PLAYER DECIDE WHO SHOULD PLAY AND BE BENCHED WHAT A SHAME .AA FOR ONCE BE TRUE TO YOURSELF THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN HANDLE,OH HOPE YOU BENCHED YOUR BEST PLAYERS TILL THE NEXT TEAM GET TIRED WHAT A TACTICS ,WHO TAUGHT YOU THAT HMMMMM,WHAT OUT,PAA USA……..

  18. Kwabena says:

AA please stand your ground and don’t quit….to us the true BS supporters you’re the best and the writing is on the wall that 2015 will see us cease being trophy less for the past 32 yrs.

  19. selfmade says:

We qualify to the second round in south Africa thanks to Australia help! Had the ref awarded the Serbs their legitimate goal against the socceroos, Ghana wld have been out and is an historical fact too!!

Again, doya was a flop in afcon just as plavi and their performances were pathetic to say the least!

Milo had an element of luck because he had a team who has peak at the right time!!

Again, if these Serbian coaches were so good, we wld have heard of them handling top teams in their own backyard but the last time I checked, all the three former Serbian coaches who handled the bs are jobless which means that is only one blind country like Ghana who ll engage in their services!!

We should stop worshipping mediocrities and believed in quality!!

Form is temporary but class is permanent!! Cheap things turns out to be expensive in the long run!!

Serbian coaches can’t do.nothing for us because they are just like any African country, CONSISTENTLY INCONSISTENT!

  20. selfmade says:

Our fa is going for Serbian coaches because they have a percentage cut!!

They minister is talking about change but is so sad and ridiculous that, even in the mist of confusion and agitations by Ghanaians, our exc. members are still planing and thinking of their stomach!!

If this decision, is not stomach direction and KAKRA YEN BE DII NTI decision, no right thinking person ll even dream of employing a Serbian who is an interim coach of his native country to take up the technical directator of a country in crisis!!!

    NATION OF JOKERS!

  21. Austin says:

Our FA got no money that’s why they can only afford Serbian and Romanian coaches .
