Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda kept a clean sheet in his first match for South African side Orlando Pirates on Tuesday as he fights to keep his position as the Black Stars first choice shot-stopper ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

The Black Stars shot-stopper was in full time action for the South African side, helping Pirates them to defeat Congo side AC Leopards 2-0 in a friendly.

Dauda had 90 minutes under his belt for the first time since moving to South Africa in August and capped it with impressive saves throughout the game.

The Ghanaian shot stopper is optimistic of more playing time in the second half of the season in the South African top-flight having impressed in the first match for Pirates.

“For me I believe in what I can do to help the team. I am excited that I kept a clean sheet and more importantly I am beginning to win the confidence of the coach,” Dauda told GHANAsoccernet.com, Ghana's leading football news outlet.

Dauda is Ghana's first choice goalkeeper after an impressive outing at the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa but faces a fight to hold onto his position after seeing little playing time at club level.

Having reported to camp last week following the Christmas holidays, Dauda has started intense preparations and has been focused on what is to be a tough campaign to decide the fate of the Absa Premiership trophy.

The preparations has been intensified with the a four-team friendly tournament where the Buccaneers are pitting their wits against United FC, Polokwane City and AC Leopards de Dolisie (Congo Brazzaville).

These matches will take place behind closed doors and will allow the teams enough time to try out various combinations ahead of their respective tasks.
