Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has arrived in Italy to complete his move to giants AC Milan, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
The 31-year-old arrived in Milan Friday evening after he was given the all-clear by Chelsea.
Essien will sign an 18-month contract at no cost to the Rossoneri.
The Ghana international was given a huge payoff for the remaining one-and-a-half years left to run on his deal at Chelsea.
The ex Olumpique Lyon man brings to an end to his thrilling eight-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge, which saw him win nine major titles, including the Champions League, two Premier League crowns, four FA Cup titles and a League Cup and a Community Shield.
Essien however played very minimal first team roles in his latter months at Chelsea.
He will be linking up with Black Stars teammate Sulley Muntari who is already a Milan player.
The midfield enforcer is expected to play a major role for Milan when the Champions League resumes due to the suspension of key midfielders; Ricardo Montolivo and Muntari.
