EXCLUSIVE: Egypt U23 plan to pull out of Ghana friendly

Egypt are planning to cancel next month international friendly against Ghana’s Under-23 team over claims the Ghana FA intends using the Black Satellites squad instead, Egyptian Olympic team coach Hossam El-Badry has exclusively told GHANAsoccernet.com.

The two teams are scheduled to meet on October 10 to prepare for the 2015 All Africa Games qualifiers scheduled to take place in Brazzaville, Congo.

However, reports have claimed the Ghana FA are planning to swap the Black Meteors with the Black Satellites which has angered the Egyptian authorities.

Even though the Ghana FA is yet to sanction the proposed friendly, coach Hossam El-Badry says his outfit will pull out of the friendly if their original opponent is changed.

“We want to play Ghana’s Olympic team not Under-20 and that must be clear,” El-Badry told GHANAsoccernet.com

“I don’t see why we should play the Black Satellites when there is an arrangement to play their seniors.

“We’ll be left with no choice to pull out if we don’t play the Meteors. We are preparing for the same competition and so it makes sense to play them rather.

“There shouldn’t be any change. No. I don’t think so. We have to stick to the plan. It’s very important.”

Ghana’s Olympic team have not qualified to major international tournament over the last eight years due to improper planning and lack of attention and only came into the limelight after winning gold at the last African championship in Maputo, Mozambique.

Current coach Malik Jabir is believed to be livid with attempts by some ‘unseen hands’ to trade their friendly game with the country’s Under-20 team.

The Black Meteors will begin preparations ahead of the qualifiers for the 2015 All Africa Games.
