Former South Africa and Sundowns defender Themba Mnguni believes Bafana Bafana will progress through to the next round in the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

Bafana Bafana will face Algeria, Ghana and Senegal in what is already dubbed the Group of Death.

But the Pretoria-born, former SuperSport United rock solid defender says South Africa will triumph from that tough group.

"We have the best young team that is ready to compete against the best, and their coach is very experienced," Mnguni told Goal.

The Pretoria-born, former SuperSport United rock solid defender reminds us that Bafana's strikers need to take their opportunities, particularly since shooting has been a weakness in the PSL.

"For Bafana Bafana to qualify for the quater-finals they will have to win their opening game against Algeria, but they must take their chances very well," Mnguni said.

"A win against Algeria will give us hope for the next two matches. So they need to be mentally and physically prepared.

He also has confidence in Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker, whose return from injury could signal an improvement in the attacking third for South Africa.

"This is the best team, and we need to support them. I am happy Shakes (Mashaba) has picked Parker to reinforce the forward (line).

"They will have to be careful of Cameroon. They might a problem in the tournament," said Mnguni when asked which other team is one of his favourites for the title.
