Former Kotoko and Hearts coach Ernst Midendorp has been quoted in local media in South Africa as saying he will be the new coach of Chippa United.

The German tactician was axed by Bloemfontein Celtic earlier this month but looks as though he will be back in the Premier Soccer League soon with the Port Elizabeth-based outfit.

It means a return to the sidelines for Roger Sikhakhane, who had been praised for his role in leading Chippa to eighth in the table at the festive season break.

Middendorp, known as a tough disciplinarian, has great experience in South Africa and the German Bundesliga and will arguably be the most accomplished coach Chippa have had in their short five-year history.

He has also previously coached at Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United and Lamontville Golden Arrows in South Africa.

He was fired by Celtic after a run of no wins in four games as the new owners at Phunya Sele Sele, who had handed him a mandate of a top three finish, grew impatient.
