Ex Hearts of Oak General Manager Ashford Tetteh-Oku has defended the player signings made by the previous management while insisting the previous management were deserted during trying times.
An amount in excess of $200,000 was reportedly made available by the club’s board for recruiting players according.
The previous administration led by Fred Crentsil have been heavily criticized for signing sub-standard players leading to the disastrous start of the Phobians in the last Premier League season.
But the ex General Manager insists the previous management team has denied the quantum of money reportedly made available for player transfers while defending the quality of acquisitions made during his last term in office.
“When things were not going right, instead of getting the support of everybody the club is so factionalized and fractionalized that everybody wants run away from problems including those who should come down and help,†he told Metro FM.
“It was Fred Crentsil, it was Ashford (himself) (who were holding the fort) and they were quoting all sorts of figures – 5bn (old cedis)!
“The board itself knows that most of the moneys were used to services outstanding debts of two to three years.
“So what was left for recruitment was not even enough. Go and ask those who are playing whether they have been fully paid.
“And then the league starts and people were not patient and whatever. Today, if they constitute their first eleven regardless of the second window registration, they will still find that the core of the team were those players recruited from the first round.â€
The Phobians managed to rally themselves following the appointment of coach David Duncan to finish strongly in 5th spot – just one point adrif a top four place.
