Ex-Ghana international Willie Klutse has paid an emotional tribute to Stephen Appiah ahead of his hugely-anticipated testimonial match on June 27, labeling him as a ‘unique’ footballer.

World football stars will storm Accra next month for the big event to honour the celebrated ex-Black Stars captain.

Appiah is reveled in the West African country after captaining the Black Stars to their first ever World Cup final in 2006 and subsequently in 2010.

The former Juventus star is a cult figure in Ghana and cut across the socio-political sphere in the African country due to his personality.

Hugely regarded as the best ever captain to lead the Black Stars due to his commitment and passion, Appiah’s fareware game has received massive endorsements from major players across the globe.

Willie Klutse, an ex-Ghana international and current technical director of ambitious local side Inter Allies believes Appiah has left an indelible mark which cannot be erased until eternity.

“He (Appiah) is a unique character.  I have never seen a player with such commitment and passion for his country,” he said

“What he has done both on and off the field cannot  be matched by anybody.

“He is a real gem. He knows where he came from and has never turned his back on his people.

“Such humans are rare to see. His humility and dedication to Ghana is second to none. That’s why he has received so much support from Ghanaians. Everybody loves him. He’s simply unique.”

The 34-year-old honed his talent at Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak which turned out to be an illustrious career spanning 17 years playing for many stellar clubs in Europe including Juventus and Fenerbache.
