Ex Ghana star Frimpong wants Appiah to alter defence

Posted On Monday, 21st January 2013

Jerry Akaminko conceded a penalty that was converted by Anderlecht striker Mbokani

Former Ghana international defender Frimpong Manso is advising Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah to axe defender Jerry Akaminko and bring in another central defender.

The Black Stars’ central defensive pairing of John Boye and Jerry Akaminko were uninspiring as they allowed DR Congo to fight from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Kwadwo Asamoah gave the four African champions a 2-0 lead but DR Congo’s Leopards staged a sensational comeback to equalise all two goals.

Frimpong Manso who was a member of the 1992 Ghana squad that lost in the final to Ivory Coast in a marathon penalty shoot-out, wants Kwesi Appiah to bring in either Evian TG’s Jonathan Mensah or Isaac Vorsah.

“Kwesi Appiah shoukd bring in either Jonathan Mensah or Isaac Vorsah to replace Akaminko to improve the defence,” he told Accra-based Happy FM.

The Turkey-based defender fouled Dieumerci Mbokani inside the Ghana box in the 69th minute which handed DR Congo a penalty.

The Black Stars will play against Mali in their second game in Group B on Thursday.

FOOLISH COACH. WHO TOLD YOU DEREK IS DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER. IT IS NOT THE DEFENCE

  2. TT says:

We missed John Mensah. Let tell the truth.
Leaving Anthony Annan on the bench didn’t help us also. Dede would have made the difference. I wish the BS all the luck in the world.

Guys let’s keep hope alive and get good result against Mali.all is not lost yet..

  4. Zap says:

And move Kwadjo Asamoah away from the left back. The Congolese made some dangerous incursion into our “eighteen” through that place. All the other teams we may meet are watching. They know our weak areas. It is unfortunate that we have a coach who played at that position but hasnt been able to identify any Ghanaian to solve that problem. What a shame !!!!!! Sack him now or face a bigger disgrace later.

  5. dadaba gonshots says:

The coach does not know squat! We should sack him NOW!

  6. quophai says:

I think the changes should not be juz one. I will hope that he pushes Atsu and Kwadwo Asamoah to the flanks. Kissi Boateng or Afful should then step in at the left full back. This will mean Adomah and Akaminko will be rested. 1.Fatau, 2. Paintsil 3. Kissi /Aful, 4. Vorsah/Jonathan Mensah, 5. Boye, 6. Annan, 7. Atsu, 8. Agyeman Badu, 9. Asamoah Gyan, 10.Wakasu, 11. Kwadwo Asamoah.

  7. JKQ says:

The coach is doing fine, even Zambia couldnt beat Ethopia. The only thing is to let Gyan play behind Yiadom or Let Dada Boat play behind Gyan.

    God will make a way!
