Ex Ghana star Frimpong wants Appiah to alter defence

Former Ghana international defender Frimpong Manso is advising Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah to axe defender Jerry Akaminko and bring in another central defender.

The Black Stars' central defensive pairing of John Boye and Jerry Akaminko were uninspiring as they allowed DR Congo to fight from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Kwadwo Asamoah gave the four African champions a 2-0 lead but DR Congo's Leopards staged a sensational comeback to equalise all two goals.

Frimpong Manso who was a member of the 1992 Ghana squad that lost in the final to Ivory Coast in a marathon penalty shoot-out, wants Kwesi Appiah to bring in either Evian TG's Jonathan Mensah or Isaac Vorsah.

"Kwesi Appiah shoukd bring in either Jonathan Mensah or Isaac Vorsah to replace Akaminko to improve the defence," he told Accra-based Happy FM.

The Turkey-based defender fouled Dieumerci Mbokani inside the Ghana box in the 69th minute which handed DR Congo a penalty.

The Black Stars will play against Mali in their second game in Group B on Thursday.
