Ex-Ghana defender Sam Johnson says Maxwell Konadu should be allowed to lead the Black Stars at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations before handing over to Avram Grant.

Grant is set to be named substantive coach on Thursday after the Ghana Football Association and the Sports Ministry agreement on his appointment.

But the debate has been whether the former Chelsea manager should be made to handle the team in Equatorial Guinea.

But Johnson believes the Black Stars will be in  good position to contest for a the title with Konadu in-charge.

“I think Maxwell Konadu has done well to qualify us to the Nations Cup and I believe that he deserves to be given the nod to lead the team in the” the former Anderlecht star said.

“If we give it to the new coach it will not only make him feel as if he can’t do the job, but also it will put some pressure on the new coach.

“It will be the best decision for the Ghana Football Association to give the job to Maxwell Konadu.

“We are creating the impression that he Maxwell cannot take charge of the Stars, but let’s not forget that he qualified us.”
