Ex-Ghana defender George Blay signs for Royal Antwerp

Ex-Ghana defender George Blay has signed a two-year deal with Belgian second-tier side Royal Antwerp from Romanian top flight side Unirea Urziceni.

The 31-year-old has been brought in to replace Bar Van Zundert

Blay, who can play as a right-back and in central defence, played a total of nine seasons in the Belgian top flight.

He began first with Standard Liege between 1997 and 2002.

The former Sekondi Hasaacas man crossed to K.V. Mechelen for the 2002/2003 season and then landed at La Louviére form 2003 to 2006.

Blay then moved to Romania in 2006 by first joining Dinamo Bucarest.

He was a member of the Ghana squad which played at the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Mali.

Blay won the 1999 African Youth Championship under Italian Guissepe Dossena on home soil.
