Emmanuel Quarshie and a Zamalek official in a meeting
Ex-Ghana captain Emmanuel Quarshie has developed early stages of Parkinson’s disease, a shock medical report in Egypt has been revealed to MTNFootball.com.
The former Zamalek player arrived in Cairo on Tuesday, at the invitation of the club’s president Mamdouh Abass, to undergo treatment for what he thought was lung cancer.
But doctors have in the Egyptian capital have revealed that the former national star’s ailment is far from what was originally thought to be affecting him.
He underwent tests at a Cairo hospital on Wednesday which revealed the severity of his illness but doctors in one of the top hospitals in Egypt say they will offer him effective treatment.
“Quarshie showed the early signs of Parkinson’s disease and not lung cancer,” a top Zamalek official told MTNFootball.com on condition of anonymity.
“The doctors say it is possible for him to respond to treatment in the coming days, which will make him recover from the illness.”
Quarshie was living in Ghana thinking he was suffering from lung cancer until Zamalek arrived in the country to play Berekum Chelsea in the Champions League.
Zamalek chief Abass worried over the plight of the player, who helped them to win several titles including the Champions League, paid for the midfielder to travel to Egypt for effective treatment.
Quarshie was the captain of Ghana’s national team that won their last Nations Cup title in 1982.

Total disgrace to the government and people in charge of football in the country. They should bow down their head in shame.
This is a shame…we spend large some of money on funerals but neglect our sick heroes.wise up drunkards*
This is a serious idictment on our health care if this diagnosis albeit sad is confirmed. I am sure a lot of Ghanaians have been sent to their early graves due to misdiagnosis & cocomitant medication(or should I say mismedication). What is the point of being an independent nation if we can not handle our own affairs? It seems that as a nation we are more interested in garrulusness & comparing inferiority rather than important issues that can uplift our wellbeing. Lest I forget. Has he sought the help of his ex-employers abroad because he was unable to pay for his medical bills? What happens to our much touted ‘friendliness’ as we want foreigners to believe if we can not save our compatriot from the cold hands of death. The government & the GFA are u listening? After all, he was an ex-international for Allah’s sake!
@Adonten&Ansong i agree with u both is a sham, God help us.
God is with captain Emmanuel Quarshie u will come alive in Jesus name, Amen. whn u say a prayer say one 4 coach Quarshie.
thanks mahmoud. we r still in the FOZ (friends of zamalek)
This is the reason why a lot of Ghanaians abroad do not want to go back home to live. You try that and your health is in great danger.
We have morons at the presidency and idiots at the parliament who think they are elected to get paid. They see serving the Ghanaian citizenry an opportunity to loot.
get well soon mr.
