Ex-Ghana captain Appiah rubbishes retirement reports

Posted On Wednesday, 16th May 2012

By Patrick Kwame Akoto

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has dismissed reports he intends calling it quit on a glittering career when his contract expires at FK Vojvodina.

The 31-year old is enjoying his time in the Serbian top-flight since he joined the Eastern European outfit last February.

He has been at his breathtaking best but news of a purported intention to retire from the game has emerged in the Ghanaian media.

Reports had claimed the former Juventus and Fenerbache enforcer was considering hanging his boot when his six-month deal expires to  concentrate on other offers on the table for him.

But the ever-smiling and affable former Ghana skipper has rubbished the reports insisting he still has a lot to offer in the game.

“I have never spoken to anybody about any retirement plans so it baffles me as to how those rumours came about in the first place,” Appiah said.

“I will hang my boots at the appropriate time but it’s certainly not now so I urge everybody to treat such rumours with a pinch of salt.”

I think we are better of giving the Black Stars to Stephen Appiah than Akwasi Appiah. Though he has played any as the head coach, I dnt believe he can do it. I saw how he managed the players during the Ghana and Sudan match @ ksi. Though he was standing throghout the game, he impact as the manager was not seen on the game
