Ex Ghana captain Stephen Appiah is backing the Black Stars to excel at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars have won all two friendly games ahead of the tournament being hosted by South Africa.

Ghana hopes to win its first Nations Cup title after 31-years when the competition starts on January 20.

And after watching the Black Stars blow away Egypt and Tunisia in the two warm up games ahead of the 2013 AFCON, former skipper Appiah is certain the team will impress in South Africa.

“I am sure the team will do very well at the Nations Cup,” he said.

“What really excites me in this team is that you can see there are a lot of new faces in the side.

“But they played very well as a team in the friendly matches thus strengthening my conviction that this team will do very well.”

Ghana will open its Group B campaign against DR Congo on January 20 before facing Mali and Niger in the subsequent group games.
