Ex Ghana skipper CK Akunnor insists a huge score line against Egypt on Tuesday is not needed to qualify the Black Stars to the World Cup.

Ghana hosts the seven-time African champions in the first leg of the epic playoff tie for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Many believe the Black Stars must record a mammoth result on Tuesday to effectively kill off the tie before the return encounter is played next month tentatively in Cairo.

But the former Black Stars captain says winning big against the Pharaohs is not ‘necessary’ and that the team must only strive not to concede on Tuesday.

“Not necessarily [on winning big] if we have a good strategy,” he told Metrofmonline.

“Probably for both games we won’t have many goals because the situation is tensed, everybody is tensed.

“It is important we win and make sure we don’t concede any goal here. 2-0, 3-0 will be fine but we should make sure we don’t concede.”
