Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah prefers the Black Stars draw tournament favourites in their Group for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.

The former Juventus and Fenerbahce star says the 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists should not be scared of playing some of the highly-rated countries early on in the tournament.

Appiah, who captained Ghana to her debut World Cup finals in 2006 and a bit-part player in South Africa, believes the current select-band of players are capable of conquering the world's best sides.

The 32-year-old is of the view that having tough opponents will bring the best out of the team.

"I think that if we are going to be scared about the sort of countries we will face then we  have to forget  about  the World Cup," Appiah told Joy FM.

"I think  the important thing is we have to  be prepared to meet any team comes our way

"At times you know football  can be very tricky, when you play against big clubs its more easier than playing with small countries so I think that we just have to be ready and we should be thinking about teams you want to meet in the tournament."

FIFA will draw all 32 qualified countries into eight Groups of four each at a ceremony in Rio de Janeiro on 6 December.
