Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has confirmed his readiness to accept an invitation to join the Black Stars technical team for next year’s FIFA World Cup finals.

Current head coach Kwesi Appiah hinted he was prepared to name the ex-Juventus star in his backroom for the Brazil tournament.

Appiah, who captained Ghana at the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany, says he will not turn down that offer if it is put forward to him.

“When I read the story on the Internet, I was really happy, and that shows that during my days when I was doing my job, I took it seriously,” the 33-year-old is quoted by Graphic Online.

“And for someone to be recommending me at this stage, I think it’s a big thing for me.’’

Appiah played a bit-part role for Ghana in their quarter-finalist feat chalked at the last World Cup hosted by South Africa in 2010.

He quit international football after the tournament citing personal reasons.

Appiah has been without a club since leaving Serbian side Vojvodina in the summer of 2012.

TO JOIN THE BACK ROOM STAFF AS WHAT,..WHY IS EVERY OLD FOOTBALLER THINKS HE CAN BE A COACH, MORINO HAS NOT PLAYED FOOTBALL, BUT HE IS A GOOD COACH, POLO WAS TALKING TOO MUCH ABOUT HIS COACHING SKILLS, HE IS ALREADY FAILING, ABEDI IS STILL STRUGGLING TO BRING HIS TEAM TO PREMIER,CK, ODARTEY HAVE ALL FAILED,..GUYS IF YOU THINK YOU CAN BE COACHES GO AND PICK ONE OF THE STRUGGLING TEAMS IN GHANA AND SHOW WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT.LEAN FROM COACH MAXWELL.

  6. OGYA says:

Come on guys we are talking about Stephen Appiahs incessant request to help the Black Stars. The question is why is he itching to help the Black Stars? in what way? He is not a coach, he doesn’t have any skills that Akwesi Appiah doesn’t already have. Why is he insisting that he can help the Black Stars? or He just want to go to Brazil and that’s it. HE needs to get a job somewhere and leave Akwesi Appiah alone.

My advise to Akwesi Appiah is to not bow down to this noise or pressure and ignore him. The Ghana Black Stars don’t need him. I get annoyed when I see ex-Black Stars players thinking that just because they played for the national team at some point they deserve to be giving a tag-along job.

The national team needs a total outsider who Akwesi Appiah respect, with a totally different perspective on the game to help him make good decisions when the going gets tougher during the WC to turn things around and not this Appiah guy.

GSN SHOULD ALSO STOP THIS SENSATIONAL PUBLISHING OF THIS REQUEST BY STEPHEN APPIAH AND HIS SO CALLED HELP, HE HAS NOTHING TO OFFER AKWESI APPIAH AT THIS TIME. IF HE WANTS TO HELP, HE SHOULD COACH SOME 2ND DIVISION TEAM IN GHANA TO GAIN EXPERIENCE AND MAY BE HE CAN HELP IN 2018 WC, IF WE QUALIFY.
