Frimpong has been defending his career path

Ghana international and former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong taken to Twitter to defend his career path after being mocked over opting to play in the Russian top-flight.

While Arsenal handed their new signing Danny Welbeck a debut at the weekend, one of their former stars was taking the next step in his career.

Emmanuel Frimpong was an Arsenal player this time last year, sold in January to Barnsley, who decided against renewing his contract.

The 22-year-old Ghanaian landed up signing as a free agent with Russian side UFA.

He made his debut at the weekend, coming on as a second half substitute in their 2-0 win over Kuban Krasnodar.

Playing the entire second half, he performed steadily, making one successful tackle, having one shot on target - and picking up a yellow card.

After the game he took to Twitter to express his delight at making his debut, and reacted with agitation as he found himself mocked for his choice of club.
