Ghana could be camping in Ethiopia for Nations Cup
Ghana could pitch camp in Ethiopia ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars are drawn in Group B alongside Mali, Niger and Congo DR for the tournament that kicks off on January 19 in South Africa.
Ghana will open its campaign in a dicey game against Congo DR on January 20.
The team’s management committee headed by Ghana FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi are in the process of putting all arrangements in place to prepare the Black Stars adequately for the competition.
It has however emerged Ethiopia is more preferred to the recently often used Kenya as the location to hold Ghana’s the pre-tournament camp.
“My personal preference is Ethiopia which has highest altitude of 1,500 feet above sea level and I think it would be extremely beneficial to the team in terms of building their energy levels,” GFA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi told Africa Sports.
The Black Stars are expected to play a friendly game next month to kick start preparations for the Nations Cup.
The four-time African champions will be making its latest attempt to win its first AFCON title in 31-years.
Good move, after the humiliation suffered by the Ghana Coach a Kenyan snub is in order. Please do not let the team just sit at high altitude. Run them and get them to be the most conditioned team at the tournament. The rest will be history.
Just an idea… is it not possible to camp the team in south Africa before the tournaments start they will have been so used to the place and environment already.
