Essipong to host Ghana-SA CAN-17 return tie

The Essipong stadium will host the return leg of the 2013 CAN-17 qualifier between Ghana and South Africa on December 1.

The Black Starlets are favourite to qualify to the championship in Morocco next year after a 3-2 win over the Amajimbos in Benoni City last Saturday.

The Ghana Football Association has decided to move the fixture to the 20,000 seater Essipong stadium in Sekondi to give fans in the Western Region the opportunity to watch the national team.

“The match wil be played at the Essipong stadium because we want to decentralize the national team games for all Ghanaians to watch our pride,” Vice-chairman of the Black Starlets management committee Winfred Osei Parma said

“You will realize Accra and Kumasi have hosted the Black Stars and the Tamale also hosted the Black Satellites and so it only fair and proper that we shift this game to Essipong.

“The national team belongs to all Ghanaians and so everyone must have a feel of the performance of the national team.

The 2013 edition of the African Under-17 Championship will be hosted by Morocco from 13-27 April.
