Michael Essien with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez at the signing-on ceremony
By Ameenu Shardow
Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has signed a contract which finalizes his season’s-long loan move to Real Madrid.
The 29-year-old met up with Real Madrid’s President Florentino Perez at the club’s board room after passing a mandatory medical at the Sanitas-La Moraleja Hospital a few hours earlier.
He then signed the contract and was presented with the symbolic Real Madrid shirt, a watch and a pen by Perez signifying the completion of his move to the nine-time European champions.
The duo then descended to the press room for Essien’s first press conference upon joining Los Blancos.
The ex Olympique Lyon player was reunited with manager Jose Mourinho under whom he played at Chelsea after securing his loan move on transfer deadline day on Friday night.
His move was necessitated by the lack of first team opportunities at Stamford Bridge under manager Roberto Di Matteo.
Essien’s move to Madrid has been hailed by several Ghanaians as it provides the hope of reviving his football career following a three-year spell with bad injuries.
His prospective return to tip-top form will serve a timely boost to the Black Stars as he is expected to join up with the team for the 2013 Nations Cup if Ghana qualifies ahead of Malawi.
Shame to Nigerias, God is in control Roberto D and his Nigeria counterpart who is also one of the manager there God will punish you all with Mikel Obi the juju man your time is coming.today Essien is
a happy man
More please tone down a bit.If Essien takes his Christian life serious then what is juju or voodu??Trust me Essien knows what he has been through and will be the first person to denounce this comment
Ghana people are full of Shit!!!Bleep you all!!!Bleep you Black Charcoal of ghana!!!You ghanaians ought to be happy a fellow west african Mikel is doing us proud as african.A congenital idiot with an infinitesimal brain just accused his brother accross boarders of being the reason behind Essiens predicaments in chelsea.Nonsense!!!Mikel is the only holding midfielder while Essien is a box to box midfielder whose role overlaps with that of Ramirez!!Don’t you know the arrival of Ramirez limited Essien’s chances and not Mikel.If only Nigerians can combine force with Zambians to teach this foul mouthed and dark brained gone-mad ghanaians a lesson.Check the african map the darkest spot is occupied by this burnt fellows.
@chipolopolo,God bless you!!!
@More,see your life!Shame on you.
I grew up with Ghana friends who wouldnt like what More just said.My questions is has Ghanaians declared war on nigerians?If yes!!then let me go over the nairaland and invite millions of social media well trained armies to bombard ghanasoccernet.Then we shall see who truely owns this site!
@chipo, hve u been tking yur mom’s urine every morning? foolish bustard for tht stupied comment.
@prophet chipo is right. Anyway everyone has his time and it’s mikel’s time and he is making AFRICA proud. Essien had his time at Chelsea. He should make good use of his time @ Real Madrid. LONG LIVE GHANA….LONG LIVE AFRICA
We hope one day a Zambian player can play in top class league, the highest they av gone is TP Mazembe.
@Degraft My brother check before you talk. There is a Zambian player who plays for Southampton in the EPL. chipolopolo is right once again, please think Ghanaians we say we have stars playing in top leagues yet no trophy with those stars. Zambia defeated us(Ghana) but they had no player in the top league.
TP Mazembe even pays better than Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oaks and has good facilities too.
Someone plays in Africa and destroys defenders who play in Europe twice so you see what TP Mazembe can do.(Zambia vs Ghana) We(Ghanaians) just talk but our players(Stars) are not too good. Football is not about names, it’s the work rate.
LONG LIVE GHANA….LONG LIVE AFRICA
Excuse me chipolopol or whatever,did u jst say Ghanaians? wat are u suffering 4rm:schizophrenia,anxiety,depression or anti-social personality disorder?how can u attribute comments made by few to de whole nation….u are probably an Aids patient bcos dats de only thing ur country is noted for.
Zombies zombians zombians u guys are a piece of sheat.
I have been on GSN for sometime now and have seen the hatred for Zambians and nigerians by ghana people.Its time ghana people humble themself so others can begin to love them.What made us battle south africans to submission is what ghana people are now into.Tell @more never to be a black sheep and I will stop lashing out at ur people.You proudly say ghana is the best in football but have u considered the anticedents of other nations?Talking sport in general I think countries like SA,egypt,kenya,Nigeria,ethiopia to mention a few hav made africa proud more.Ghana people stop being proud and humble your self.
