Essien helps Chelsea to Champions League passage

Michael Essien figured heavily for Chelsea in their 4-1 win over Napoli to book a place in the quarter finals of the Uefa Champions League.

The Ghana international was key for the Blues as they miraculously overturned a 3-1 deficit at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday against the talented Italian side.

A late strike by defender Branislav Ivanovic completed a rousing Chelsea comeback after Didier Drogba, and John Terry had given Chelsea the lead.

Midfielder Gokan Inler seemed to have tilted the advantage to Napoli with a 55th minute goal only for Frank Lampard and Ivanovic hitting late goals to seal a place in the last eight.

Chelsea now joins Barcelona, Real Madrid, Apoel Nicosia, Marseille, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Benfica going into Friday’s quarter final draw.
