Essien ended up on the losing side to Brighton
By Ameenu Shardow
Michael Essien played the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
The Ghana midfielder was played in the hole by manager Roberti Di Matteo against the Championship side before 17ooo fans at the Amex Stadium.
The 29-year-old was however unable to prevent the astonishing defeat of the European champions despite going ahead in the 34th minute through Frank Lampard.
Their lead was short-lived as Spanish winger Vincente equalized for the hosts with a sweeping finish.
The game was then turned on its head just before halftime as Brighton went 2-1 up through Ashley Barnes who rifled home a rebound after Will Buckley’s effort was snuffed out by Petr Cech.
The Blues had several chances to get level in the second half with new signing Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres the main culprits.
Chelsea kept pressing for the all important equalizer leaving the door open at the back for Andrew Crofts to finish off in one of Brighton’s quick breakaway.
Saturday’s result goes a long way to prove Chelsea have a lot of work to do before the season opener with Manchester City next week in the Community Shield.
Where was the sporting Director, Micheal Emanelo? I bet he didn’t check the line up of chelsea b4 the Match. Thumps up Micheal! U stills showed ur class despite the Loss. May God b wit u thru the season. We still believe u r the best- keep the Fire burning
Essien “agu”
Essien “w3shwi3″
Essien “3gbor”
it’s very bad for the ghanaian midfielder, but that was just a preseason game and i dont think it was so much competitive for De-mateo to use his prominent players, he is only trying some other players who he think will or myght fit into his squard in the up co ming season. But all the same, i wish Essien all the best next season!…..
When would ghanaians learn? Essien rejected Black Stars for Chelsea. He still does not intend to play for ghana. So stop pampering him and publishing every little news about him. We don’t want him anymore.
There are some boys Ghana should approach some boys like Elvia Manu (feyenoord) Memphis Depay (psv) and when are de documents ready to welcome Frimpong -_- !!!
@Askantwi, i agree with you perfectly. You have said it all. Ghanaians must think well before talk. Is Chelsea more important than Ghana? People who praising Essien on this site must answer this question
At the end of the day, essien is a ghanaian n so far as he has the ghanaian blood runnin thru his veins, we wil support him no mata hw bad quot n quote he has treated GH. we all hurt GH thru our actions n inactions. the one who has neva sinned shd throw the 1st stone
essien should never be disrupted despite the defeat.
MASSA, PACK UR NIBEES N GO TO REAL. CHELSEA ISNT GOING ANYWHERE THIS SEASON. THE DEFENSE IS POROUS N OLD. THEY CANT KEEP UP WITH THE YOUNG GUNNERS, AND CHELSEA DONT HAVE GOAL POACHERS LIKE DROGBA. SO NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE MIDFIELD IS, THE TEAM WILL STILL COME UP SHORT. U WILL BE BETTER OFF ON THE BENCH AT REAL THAN AT CHELSEA.
