Essien in first Real Madrid training on Saturday evening
By Ameenu Shardow
Michael Essien has been axed from the final Real Madrid team to play against Granada on Sunday.
The Ghana international made it into the initial 20-man squad selected for the game on the same day he completed his switch from Chelsea and trained for the first time with the team.
The 29-year-old however failed to make the final 18-man squad, dropping out alongside goalkeeper Pacheco.
This means Essien will be unable to make his Real Madrid debut on Sunday against Granada.
The former Olympique Lyon enforcer will undoubtedly not take too long before making his debut in subsequent games.
Essien became the final summer signing for the nine-time European champions after sealing a season’s-long loan move from English club Chelsea on transfer deadline day.
