Esperance contests Emmanuel Clottey's eligibility to play for Asante Kotoko
Emmanuel Clottey considered ineligible to play for Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko insists Emmanuel Clottey is eligible to play for them while Esperance are holding onto the striker’s original ITC over claims of being owed some transfer fees.

Clottey joined the Ghanaian champions on a reported three-year deal but has since just made one substitute appearance for the side.

While rumours are rife that the paper work to make the former Berekum Chelsea player eligible are not complete, the club’s Accra Representative insists the striker is in the clear to play matches for the side.

“Emmanuel Clottey has no issues with his paper work,” he said in a recording.

“If he is not being picked by the coach why should we bear the brunt?

“It is the coach’s prerogative to pick players or not.”

However in an e-mail response to Kumasi-based Metro FM, Esperance – Clottey’s previous club – claim they are yet to receive full payment for the transfer of the striker.

The Tunisian club issued a temporal ITC to Kotoko for the registration of Emmanuel Clottey while negotiations continued.

But the original ITC is now needed following the expiration of the temporal ITC of which Esperance are reluctant in releasing over a dispute in the transfer amount of the striker.
