Espanyol midfielder Mubarak Wakaso will miss this weekend’s league match in Spain thanks to his suspension from the club’s first team.

The Ghana international will not available when his struggling side take on Atletico Madrid in a crucial La Liga game on Sunday night.

The youngster has been banned from Espanyol’s first team after failing to arrive in time from the Africa Cup of Nations.

He has been made to train alone since he arrived with the club’s Mexican coach Aguirre unwilling to forgive the midfielder for arriving about six days late.

Even though his absence is a blow to the club, the coach is keen on using Wakaso to send a message to the other players in the squad about punctuality.

Wakaso was made to sit out last week’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Real Betis.

  1. Roy says:

Espany won 1-0 against Real Betis. A team that has won four out of last five matches is certainly not struggling.

  2. African Consciousness says:

The Coach is taking this discipline thing too far. Sending a quality player to the second team and making him train alone is discriminatory and unprofessional. He is just as bad as Wakaso was for reporting late without excuse. It is time for Wakaso’s agent to stand up for his player.

  3. Dr Who says:

Once the coach is winning matches then it appears he has taken the right decision. He will start feeling the heat when they start losing. As for Wakaso,he should rest his limbs for next months WC qualifier against Sudan.

  4. Roy says:

@Dr.Who, @A.C I agree with u guys. Being too obstinate on disciplinary matters becomes counter effective . Players need to be managed by instilling discipline but also need to be supported, this coch can’t achieve any purpose by applying draconian decrees period!!

  5. bongo says:

there are far better players in wakasos position than him thats why he is not being called to train with the first team, just the month before he came to the afcon he was subsituted against madrid in the 22nd minute for not playin well, for me i dont see how good wakaso is,as javier agguire likes more flair players who can control the ball well than aggressive wakaso
