Espanyol appeal Wakaso's one game ban
Mubarak Wakaso has been slapped with a one-match ban

Espanyol has filed an appeal against the one-game ban of Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso.

The 22-year-old was slapped with the ban on Monday for accumulated yellow cards.

Wakaso was booked in the weekend’s clash with Malaga resulting in his fifth yellow card build up – leading to his suspension.

But Espanyol are contesting Sunday’s booking on the grounds their player’s foul was an accident.

"After viewing the play, Espanyol understand that the action is judged inadvertently because the player in his move, slipped and fell so cannot avoid the contact with the player of Malaga,” the Catalan club stated in its appeal to the competition committee of La Liga.

The Ghana international who is currently with the Black Stars squad for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers has a terrible disciplinary record in the Spanish top flight.

Wakaso has already attracted 11 yellow cards and one red just this season in the Spanish top flight.
