Enugu Rangers fire fresh FIFA threat as GHALCA $9000 scandal hits new twist
GHALCA chairman Alhaji Ali Raji

Nigerian side Enugu Rangers have renewed their threat to report GHALCA to FIFA insisting they have not received part or full payment for their involvement in the 2013 President’s Cup as the $9000 scandal that has hit the Ghanaian organisation hits a new twist.

Rangers have renewed calls to the Ghana League Club Association (GHALCA) for the $30,000 appearance fee due them for featuring in the 2013 President’s Cup hosted by the association.

There were reported claims by the GHALCA that $9,000 was secured as loan from the Ghana FA by their under-siege chairman Alhaji Raji to make an urgent payment to the Nigerian club last year, but Rangers said nothing was paid to them.

Rangers media officer, Forster Chime, said Rangers had petitioned Ghana Football Association through the Nigerian Football Federation over the matter, as they considered it a breach of trust. But to date, they were yet to get any feedback.

Alhaji Raji is facing impeachment over the $9,000 loan from the GFA.

Chime confirmed the incidence to The PUNCH, saying the club might consider litigation against the GHALCA.

“We’re thinking of going to CAF and FIFA because we’ve been ignored for too long. It is not fair to be denied what is due the club,” Chime said.

“We spent over N2m to make the trip and accommodate the 55-man delegation. We spent a lot of money on our player who was injured during one of the games. He had a broken leg that was treated at an orthopaedic hospital in Nigeria.

“The money we spent and the pressure on the players affected some of our programmes in Nigeria.

“We don’t intend to have the issue degenerate into something that will put anyone in bad light, but so far we’ve had an unfair treatment from the organisers of the invitational tournament. They must pay us the money.”
