Empower women at all levels ? Nana Konadu

Posted On Sunday, 13th May 2012

Former First Lady, Nana Kondau Agyeman Rawlings has renewed attacks on the Kufuor-led NPP government for what she claims were deliberate efforts to collapse the Movement.

She said even though the plot did not succeed, it hampered the growth of the organization in the eight-year period the New Patriotic Party ruled.

Nana Konadu who spoke exclusively on Adom TV?s morning show, Badwam, said in as much as her organization was affected by the political actions, it was the children who bore the brunt the most.

She alleged the then government decided to recall all teachers on secondment to the Movement?s Day Care Centers,a moved which hampered teaching and learning at the centers.

Highlighting the achievements of the movement, Mrs. Rawlings noted that aside being the pace setter in women?s emancipation, the movement also built several schools for pre-school children across the country.

She wants women?s empowerment encouraged to translate into the general wellbeing of the family and the country as a whole.

Nana Konadu who presides over the 31st December Women?s Movement condemned the deliberate neglect of boys in the campaign for girl child literacy, saying boys as well as girls must have equal access to education.

The 31st December Women?s Movement celebrates its 30th anniversary on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012.
