Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong says Santi Cazorla deserves more acclaim.

Santi Cazorla touched the ball 141 times against Monaco but was unable to help the Gunners score the third goal they needed to qualify for the Champions League quarter finals.

The Spaniard helped Arsenal control the midfield in what was a 2-0 win on the night, with the away side managing 71 per cent possession. A 3-1 first leg win for the Ligue 1 side at The Emirates however meant that Arsenal were eliminated on away goals.

Cazorla's performance saw his efforts hailed by former teammate Emmanuel Frimpong, who used his Twitter account to state that the ex-Malaga man deserves more credit.

Cazorla completed 88 per cent of his 121 passes against Monaco, but it was not as dynamic as previous performances this season despite his influence on the side's possession.

He did not create any goalscoring chances, nor did any of his two shots land on target.

The ex-Malaga man could really have thrown his name into the mix for the acclaim Frimpong believes he deserves had he managed to find a way to help Arsenal get the third goal they needed.

That isn't a burden which should rest on him however, as the team did well to win 2-0 away from home against a strong opponent, it was simply their first leg nightmare which let them down.
