Emmanuel Clottey's agent defends Esperance move

Posted On Friday, 14th September 2012

Emmanuel Clottey has signed for Esperance deTunis.

The agent who landed the lucrative Esperance deal for striker Emmanuel Clottey has described the move as ‘perfect’.

The 25-year-old signed a three-year-deal after completing medical on Wednesday in a new  Ghanaian transfer record fee of US$ 1.5 million.

There were perceived reports that AS Roma, Emirati side Al Wasl and some stellar were chasing after his signature.

But the Berekum Chelsea opted to stay on the continent and signed for the defending CAF Champions League champions.

His agent Emmanuel Mensah says Esperance’s level of professionalism can help the player achieve his career goals.

“It is a perfect move for the player,” the London-based FIFA Player agent told MTNFootball.com

“Esperance have massive exposure. You should only come here and see the facilities.

“There are a lot of clubs in Europe who will come nowhere near Esperance in terms of professionalism.”

Mensah believes the presence of Clottey’s international teammate Harrison Afful should help him settle down quickly at the club.

“The most satisfying aspect of it is that he is got to play in a team where his compatriot Harrison Afful from Ghana is there so he can settle quicker,” he added.

“Everything about the deal I think is good for Clottey and also good for the club (Berekum Chelsea.”

Clottey has been in sensational scoring form in this year’s CAF Champions League; netting 12 times in 11 games.

smh…GFA really needs to find a way to keep the best players IN GHANA…the only moves that should be made are to Europe or Kotoko or Hearts of Oak or a team in Ghana that can compete…there is absolutely no reason why we should keep losing our best players to other African Leagues…no reason what so ever at all

    • Lion says:

My Ghanaian brother how can you keep a player when you pay him below $500 a month while GFA and GHALCA officials ride in expensive cars. They have to organize the league well and make sure the clubs are doing the right things for the players to stay. Our clubs don’t even have kit sponsors to talk of training facilities. The players are leaving because they want improvement. EPL, LIGA, PSL, etc are attractive because of their kits, training facilities, tv coverage, good management. Thumbs up Kotoko with their puma kits but there is more to be done.
