Egyptian veteran player Mohamed Aboutrika says the Pharaohs must give up hopes of playing at the 2014 World Cup by admitting that they have no chance of overturning the 6-1 defeat to Ghana to qualify for the tournament in Brazil.
This comes after the Pharaohs were thrashed in the first-leg of the playoff which was played in Kumasi last week.
Several Egypt players are still hanging onto faint hopes of reaching the World Cup by beating Ghana 5-0 in the return in Cairo in two weeks time but Aboutrika says he has lost the hope to play in the next FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“We have lost all hope to play In the next World Cup and need to be honest with our fans. ” Trika said to reporters.
The Al Ahly ace has already announced that he will retire after the end of the African Champions League where they will play the Semifinal against Cotonsport of Cameron next Sunday.
Egypt will then host the Black Stars on November 19 in Cairo in the second match.
While Abu Trika thinks the World Cup dream gone ,some of his team mates think contradict him and say that it is not impossible to still travel to South America ahead of Ghana.
” Yes it’s very difficult to win the next match with a high score but it is not impossible . In the football world nothing is impossible” Al Ahly defender and Captain Wael Gomaa said.
Egypt need to win the next match by 5 unanswered goals to move on.
