Egypt coach Bob Bradley has named young sensation Mohammed Salah and veteran Mohammed Aboutrika in his final squad for the crucial 2014 World Cup playoff against Ghana.
The American trainer named his squad on Sunday evening to mark the beginning of their final phase of preparations towards the October 15 clash in Kumasi.
Wael Gomaa and Shikabala were named in the 24-man squad despite their recent struggles with injury.
Coach Bradley delayed the naming of his final squad to check on his international players on club duty – especially with Al Ahly’s Champions League game against Coton Sport postponed due to heavy rains.
Experienced Ahmed Fathi, Sayed Moawad and Ahmed Al-Muhammadi were named as part of eight defenders called up for the game against the Black Stars.
Veteran midfielder Mohammed Aboutrika leads the pack of midfielders with youngster Salah headlining the striking department.
Several players who were in action in the Uganda friendly including, Zamalek’s Omar Gaber and Dakhlia Ahmed Temsah were omitted, in addition to uncapped quartet Ahmed Tawfik, Ahmed Samir, Mohamed Abdul-Fattah and Mahmoud Alaa.
Lierse defense duo Ahmed Saied ‘Ouka’ and Ahmed Samir Farag, Orouba midfielder Ibrahim Salah and Smouha’s Ahmed Hamoudi were also left out.
Hazem Emam, who was only called up as a precaution after Ahmed Fathi sustained a minor injury, kept his place following a couple of impressive displays in the recent friendlies against Uganda.
Egypt, who last made a World Cup appearance in 1990, host the return leg on November 19.
