Sakyi Quaye in action for Edubiase
By Ameenu Shardow
Midfielder Sakyi Quaye has hailed New Edubiase’s first win of the season against Tema Youth on Sunday.
Kickoff of the game played in Berkwai was delayed due to rain.
But Edubiase managed a narrow 1-0 win at the depth despite missing an opportunity to go ahead earlier through a spot kick.
One-goal hero Sakyi Quaye expressed relief after helping last season’s FA Cup winners to their first win of the campaign against a team he once played for.
“As the league started, we lost our first two games and going into this game, it was very crucial that we got a win in this third game,” Quaye said after the game.
“I’m very happy because I was playing against my former club, Tema Youth. If you saw the motivation they brought, we went into this game knowing it won’t be easy and playing was tough.
“Even before the game started it started raining. Tema Youth are also a young side and so it meant a lot of running.
“They know how to possess the ball so all the time it was difficult for us.”
Edubiase will be looking to build on their first win when they play away to King Faisal on Wednesday.

On a rainy day in Bekwai, New Edubiase were fortunate to scrape a 1-0 win against Tema Youth 1-0 on Sunday in the Glo Premier League. The Gyamfi Park was a tough place on the day as the wet conditions made things difficult for both sides.
“As the league started, we lost our first two games and going into this game, it was very crucial that we got a win in this third game,” said Sakyi Quaye after the game.
It had been heading for a draw before the influential Basit Adams was given a chance to shoot Edubiase into the lead with a penalty with fifteen minutes to go. The pressure got to him and Adams contrived to miss, drawing the ire of the crowd who had braved the weather.
But ten minutes later, Sakyi Quaye got the winner. Playing against his former club, the 85th minute goal deflated a spirited Tema Youth. “I’m very happy because I was playing against my former club, Tema Youth. If you saw the motivation they brought, we went into this game knowing it won’t be easy and playing was tough.”
There were also repeated stoppages of up to twenty minutes due to the rain and other contentious decisions in the second half.
“Even before the game started it started raining. Tema Youth are also a young side and so it meant a lot of running. They know how to possess the ball so all the time it was difficult for us.”
Edubiase have used Quaye, 22, as a thrusting midfielder and he has been outstanding for the club since he joined them three seasons ago. He was also part of the local Black Stars team named in August.
