Veteran trainer JE Sarpong says the lack of Premier League football in the country will deny new Ghana coach Avram Grant the chance of selecting a credible gloves man for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Duo Stephen Adams and Fatau Dauda who were used in the qualifiers and bound to make it to the finals in Equatorial Guinea have been far from convincing.

Dauda terminated his contract with South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United and returned to his former club AshantiGold but has not played competitive football.

Aduana Stars' Adams has suffered a similar fate and lost his position to Spain-based Razak Braimah.

"The lack of competitiveness in our local league is a factor. If we are playing the local league and there is competition among the goalkeepers we can easily pick some of them for the national team," Sarpong told Citi FM.

"The coach should be able to scout to enable more competition. If they can organize even a training session for the goalkeepers outside the team interest that will yield some benefit for us but if we over rely on the foreign players and our local league is also inactive then we are torn between the devil and the deep blue sea."
