Dutch-born Ghanaian Depay finds scoring boot in PSV win

Posted On Monday, 4th March 2013

Could-be Ghanaian winger Memphis Depay celebrates his opener for PSV Eindhoven at the Phillips Arena against VVV Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie

By Akyereko Frimpong Manson

Dutch-born Ghanaian winger Memphis Depay scored his second Eredivisie goal of the season for PSV Eindhoven as they smoothly edged VVV Venlo 2-0 on Saturday.

Depay, 19, took just three minutes to open the scoring at the Philips Stadion and went on to last the entire duration of the game for the Rood-wittens.

PSV needed maximum points from the game to ensure their title ambitions are kept on track and Depay, born to a Ghanaian mother and a Dutch father, gave them the right impetus with the opener.

Jürgen Locadia hit the by-line with a lightening pace and found Depay who made the chance count by scoring the opener to give PSV a strong start.

Mark Van Bommel then put the points safe by scoring on the stroke of full-time.

Gfa we need a striker don’t we?

  2. Samedge7 says:

we need strikers alright but i don’t think Memphis Depay will naturalise for Ghana bcos Netherland who has nurtured him from his infancy till date would also want him in their national team. These are some of the mistakes Gfa makes. They must act fast on these foreign born players at the early stage, thus their 15th-17th age by inviting them for friendly matches or whatever. With this, they will have a perception that they have have a place in the national team in future hence cannot be lured by the foreign countries.

  3. pito says:

depay has been on the bench for sometime now. one start one goal. why have we not heard of what the gfa is doing to get this chap? we are always finding ourself short in the striking department since tony yeboah and abedi retired. Blackstars need to pay attention to acquiring and grooming these young talents and a few years down the line we will get an eto or drogba. al ain gyan cannot score in the worldcup so lets start giving game play to strikers like yiadom, jordan, warris e.t.c If we want anylonger the dutch will snatch him.
Nyantakyi please work on bringing depay to the blackstars.

  4. pito says:

i must add that if any player will perform well for the blackstars, confidence is a factor. The reason asamoah gyan looks like he performs more than the others in better leagues is because of the confidence he has acquired playing in the blackstars for long. But the truth is he lacks quality at the moment. We must get this young strikers in better leagues and give them lots of playing time in the blackstars then we will get QUALITY with CONFIDENCE. thank you
