Duncan claims Kingston is best Ghanaian playmaker

Posted On Monday, 19th November 2012

Laryea Kingston is the best Ghanaian playmaker, according to Hearts coach David Duncan

Hearts coach David Duncan claims no player in the current Black Stars set-up can match-up the playemaker role of Laryea Kingston.

The 32-year-old was at his defining best for Hearts of Oak in their pulsating goalless draw game at arch-rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday.

The former Hapoel Tel Aviv man is being backed many including veteran trainer JE Sarpong to get a sensational recall into the national  team ahead of the continental showpiece in South Africa.

Ghana can boast of an array of playmakers like Kwadwo Asamoah, Derek Boateng and Andre Ayew but the former Ashantigold and Free State Stars trainer insists Kingston’s playmaker role is unrivaled.

“I have sat down and looked at the national team for a long time and to be honest with you there is no player in the current set-up that can match-up the playmaker role of Laryea Kingston,” Duncan told Accra-based Happy FM

“I must be honest with you. I’m not part of Black Stars technical team but I believe they should look in his direction.

“He has everything including leadership.

Kingston has been craving for a return to the international stage.

Duncan claims Kingston is best Ghanaian play-maker? Amazing! Sometimes, people have to talk about something just to keep their voice boxes in working. Please Mr. David Duncan, you are not entitled to your opinion. Rather, you are entitled to an informed opinion. Don’t be enslaved by your emotions. You must allow your heart to rule your mind. Plato said ‘Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools (not you though) because they have to say something.” Why are you creating a messiah out of Laryea Kingston just after 90mins? He has not arrived. To talk much and arrive nowhere is the same as climbing a tree to catch a fish. You are just a beginner, please take time. Perhaps the most important quality of a playmaker is the ability to read the game, and get into good positions making for effective receipt and distribution of the ball. Laryea Kinston failed to demonstrate endurance or if u like stamina required to control the game as a playmaker. In the most modern sense of the word, the ostensible role of the playmaker is to provide or facilitate the final pass which leads to a goal or to score himself. And when did Laryea assume these qualities. EXCUSE ME!

      mr oti-asirifi
please give us a break.is it because laryea has returned to play in the local league? many of our boys in the present stars set up are warming the bench in their respective clubs. he is the best in his role, and in the 2006 world cup, himself, muntari, and appiah were adjudged the best midfield in the world. if he is kept out of the stars, then heaven help Ghana football.

COACH APPIAH AND KONADU MAX SHOULD LOOK INTO IT FOR SURE AND CALL HIM.IF SOCCER EXPERTS ARE CALLING FOR THAT BRA LARYEA SHOULD BE GIVEN A CHANCE SO DO QUINCY ABIYIE WE NEED ALL HANDS ON DECK TO BRING THE CUP HOME.MIX THE EXPERIENCE AND YOUTH AND YOU WOULD SEE THE GREAT RESULTS.

  3. bawah says:

MR COATCH YOU ARE RIGHT.HE IS A SPECIAL PLAYER. BUT FOOTBALL GOES WITH DISCIPLINE.I LOVE THIS SPECIAL PLAYER BECAUSE OF THE GOAL HE GAVE TO GOALKEEPER KINSTON AGAINST THE SOCCEROOS IN A FRIENDLY. AS THE FORMER GHANA COATCH SAID HE WILL NEVER ACCEPT TO WARM THE BENCH!

  4. sammy chicago says:

football ia played in 90 mins, not 20, 30, or 45. kingston was only effective for 25mins. of the game so duncan should give us a break. he is only good for hearts of oak.

  5. sammy chicago says:

    football is played in 90mins

  6. Evans says:

the black star lacks a well experienced midfielder who can play well in the forward right position so far as crossing is concern.Ghanaians have no alternative than to go for this talented player

  7. dread says:

Coach Duncan and JE Sarpong are dreaming. You guys think AA and Maxwell Konadu will invite Laryea that undisciplined player.Laryea’s time has passed and he is still forcing to play Black Stars so baaaad! He can”t even play 90 mins why should AA call him.Nonesense!!

  8. Randy says:

We should think of Ghana not an individual, therefore if he can help Ghana, why not?. Katongo, Drogba, Eto and many others are older than Kingston yet they are playing regularly for their countries, let us not mention Roger Milla of 1990 World Cup.

  9. collinto papa says:

Laryea really deserve a place in Black stars. He is a good and experience player. We should be mindful we can’t talk about football without experience. The likes of Puyol, Steve Gerard, Klose, Abu Trika, Drogba etc should inform us well.

  10. agyei says:

If you have 2 former kotoko players who are now blackstars coaches, you think they will call laryea kingston? These idiots will never call him….mark my words! But go back and check those who have been called into the blackstars recently…and you will find a certain name that will shock you: BEN ACHEAMPONG! H e was in the Kotoko line up yesterday….and did you all see him, buddies? That useless player got a call into the blackstars under Akwasi Appiah….and yet, this mumu coach hasn’t called Laryea to come have a go!

Look, whether we like it or not, people, believe me—-those of us who have high hopes! Akwasi Appiah isn’t taking us anywhere….just mark this down! If we qualify out of our CAN group…we must thank God, but we will be booted out asap in the next! And if he is allowed to hang on after the nations cup…..then huuurraaayyyyyy….cos ZAMBIA will be going to the world cup! Twiaaa….!

    Tell me:

    1. What formation does the blackstars play now?

    2. Can you confidently name the 1st eleven players?

    3. How many different players has he called since he assumed office? Calling the wrong players and leaving the right ones out?

    4. Do you see how long it takes him to make a substitution? And that is, even we must hope the substitution is a good one!

    5. He lacks the ability to read and change the game when his opponents change their formation.

Look, it will take a major whipping and loss for us to see that this guy is “useless” in coaching. He is only fit for the CHAN or local clubs…not blackstars! Since he took over, have you observed how the boys play now? They boys win games not because Akwasi is good, but because of sheer talent and determination….because the coach is a total waste!

  11. game mind says:

THE REAL PLAYMAKER IS THE ONLY ONE IN GOOD SHAPE Quincy Owusu-Abeyie hogged the headlines with his impressive performance for Panathinaikos who beat PAOK 2-0.
