Ghana goalkeepers’ trainer Nassam Yakubu has backed Fatau Dauda and insisted dropping the under-pressure goalkeeper ahead of the Montenegro friendly won’t dent his confidence.

Dauda, 28, has been left of the squad to face the South Eastern European country on March 5 in Podgorica.

The former Ashantigold glovesman has been restricted to the substitute bench at Orlando Pirates where lack of regular playing time has become a constant feature.

However Black Stars trainer Nassam Yakubu has assured Dauda of his future with the team and feels dropping him for his country would be undeserved.

"If I show a lack of faith in Dauda it would be undeserving after what he has done for Ghana,” he told Accra-based Happy FM

“He has just been dropped for this friendly but surely he will go to Brazil.

“We have all been concerned about his lack of playing time but that will not affect his confidence and performance.

“We only need to work with him for few weeks and he will be in top shape before the World Cup.

“He is aware of what we’re trying to do and so he’s not perturbed at all.”

With Dauda’s place confirmed, there are only two slots available with Adam Kwarasey more than likely to make the squad.

Aduana Stars goalkeeper Stephen Adams has taken his place for the friendly next month.
