Don?t let people play on your emotions ? Nana Konadu tells women

Posted On Monday, 14th May 2012

Former First Lady and President of the 31st December Women?s Movement, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has counseled women to be decisive and watch against persons who take advantage of them by playing on their emotions.

Noting that women are generally considered as the weaker sex, she said some persons capitalize on that to influence women to take certain decisions that would eventually not inure to their benefit.

In an exclusive interview on Multi TV?s Badwam programme on the Adom TV channel on Friday, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings counseled: ?Don?t allow people to use emotional intelligence to get you.?

Urging women to use their head and heart, not their emotions to take decisions, she said women should not allow people to cajole them into taking decisions otherwise ?you will just fall victim to it. No! Analyse it? and get convinced that the decision you are taking is the best and not because somebody thinks so.

Touching on women development which she said informed the idea behind the formation of the 31st December Women?s Movement, Nana Konadu said Ghanaian women should be supported to gain confidence in themselves and be courageous.

She warned: ?If you don?t help us to move forward, we will help you to come back.?

Touching on the 31st December Women?s Movement which marks its 30th anniversary, Mrs. Rawlings extolled the importance of women in ?our daily lives? and asked that they should be treated with respect.

She said various activities have been lined up for the celebration and this include prizes which will be awarded to 1,000 hardworking members of the group, drawn equally from each of the 10 regions in the country.

In addition, private schools belonging to the group in deprived areas will be renovated and new professional teachers from the group would be dispatched to ensure quality education in the schools.

The activities marking the anniversary would be climaxed with a thanksgiving service at the Solid Rock Chapel with Rev. Christie Doe-Tetteh delivering the sermon.

As the world marks ?Mothers Day? on Sunday, She quoted the words of Dr. Kwagyir Aggrey: ?If you educate a man, you have educated one person but if you educate a woman, you have educated a nation…? adding that female education should be revamped and women, to a large extent, must be given the chance to participate in active politics and issues of national interest in order to break totally, the barrier of gender inequality.

?Behind every successful man, there is a woman,? she said, adding that women are the physical and spiritual backbone of every family and, therefore, they should be honoured by all for their hard work especially on the day set aside for them.

She also implored women to stand their ground and work hard to support their husbands and ensure socio-economic well-being of their families.

The 31st December Women’s Movement (31st DWM) was initiated in 1982 and aims at empowering women socio-economically, politically and culturally.
