Desailly favours Iniesta for World Player of the Year

Former AC Milan and Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly believes that Andres Iniesta should be handed the Ballon d’Or.

The little midfielder is one of three Barcelona players in the running for the award, with favourite Lionel Messi and fellow midfielder Xavi. Desailly though, would give the nod to Iniesta.

Desailly believes that the Catalan star deserves the Ballon d’Or "for all he has done for the year and because he scored the goal that gave the World Cup to Spain, and he is very important for his team, creating the space for Messi, Pedro and [David] Villa."

The ex-France star also took time to praise Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, believing that the player’s movement and distribution to more attacking players marks him out as the best centre back in Europe at present. "Pique is the best central defender in Europe for his movement, the way he is ahead of his attackers and his distribution", said Desailly.
