Ghanaian Derek Asamoah was missing in action when David Amoo's second-half goal gave Carlisle United another vital victory in their bid to escape League Two relegation trouble.

In front of a big travelling army of 1,696 in a 4,165 crowd, Amoo struck in the 51st minute to sink Morecambe.

The winger cut onto his left foot and saw his shot go under home keeper Scott Davies in front of Carlisle's supporters.

It was enough to earn the Cumbrians a second straight win - and only their second away win of the campaign.

It also sent them up to 20th in the table, five points above the drop zone.

With Courtney Meppen-Walter recalled in a holding midfield role, Kyle Dempsey had United's best chance in the goalless first half.

The young midfielder had a chance to put the Blues ahead in the 35th minute, but opted to dribble instead of shoot and was tackled in front of goal.

At the other end, Kevin Ellison had a header cleared off the line by Tom Anderson, before the veteran Morecambe frontman miscontrolled a cross in front of goal.

United were otherwise tight defensively, with Meppen-Walter having taken Derek Asamoah's place in the United line-up.

Dan Hanford tipped over a Jamie Devitt shot moments before Amoo shot them ahead on the break.

The Shrimps almost levelled through sub Jack Redshaw, but he shot wide.

Amond then had a goal disallowed for offside as United held on.
