Defender John Boye returns to action after six-month absence, World Cup boost for Ghana
John Boye has been out of action for six months

Ghana defender John Boye has massively boosted the Black Stars World Cup hopes by returning to action for the first time in six months by playing in the France top-flight on Wednesday night.

The central defender was in action for his club Rennes on Wednesday night as they defeated Auxerre 1-0 in the French League Cup away match.

He played the entire duration of the game which has as a massive relief for Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah who was sweating over the fitness of his first-choice central defensive of Isaac Vorsah and Boye for the World Cup.

With Boye return to full time action for Rennes it means he will be ready to play for the Black Stars at the World Cup if he avoids new injuries.

Boye has been battling injuries since September last year after captaining Ghana in a 3-1 friendly defeat to Japan.

He was an unused substitute in last Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Ajaccio.

His return will be a massive boost for Black Stars coach Appiah ahead of naming his World Cup squad in three months time.
