Defender Awal Mohammed was unable to join Ghana's squad for the friendly international against Cape Verde on Wednesday.

The Maritzburg FC player could not secure a visa to join the Black Stars in Lisbon for the pre-Africa Cup of Nations warm-up match.

Mohammed was handed his debut Ghana call-up after impressive displays in the South African Absa Premiership.

He has a remote chance of making Ghana's squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

"I feel a bit disappointed but I have taken it in good faith," the former Kotoko centre-back told MTNFootball.com

"I have spoken to the coach and he has assured me that if I continue playing good, I can get another opportunity."

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah wants to assess the fringe players before naming his final 23-man squad for the 19 January- 10 February tournament.
