David Duncan was thrilled with the fighting spirit of his side
Hearts coach David Duncan hailed his side’s character and quality as they overcame a stubborn BA Stars side to advance to the round of 16 of the MTN Ghana FA Cup on Sunday.
The Phobians left it late to score deep into stoppage-time to claim a precious 1-0 win over the second-tier side.
Hearts had the chunk of possession but could not break a resolute BA Stars defense with goalkeeper Kwame Noah standing between the capital-based side and avalanche of goals at the Accra sports stadium.
The lower division side finally succumbed courtesy a trademark free-kick from captain Mahatma Otoo from 25-yards.
The former Ashantigold and Great Olympics trainer was delighted with the resilience of his players.
“It was a difficult game but one again we showed team spirit and character,” Duncan said
“It was obvious our opponent wanted play penalty. But we didn’t want to be involved in that lottery.
“We had to win and I’m happy we managed to get that crucial goal from Mahatma Otoo.”
Hearts will now turn their attention to the Ghana Premier League whey they will host Berekum Arsenals on March 16.
