Dauda not yet Ghana's no.1 goalkeeper - Appiah

Fatawu Dauda has kept the post for Ghana in the three group matches at 2013 AFCON

By Ameenu Shardow

Coach Akwasi Appiah has refused to label Fatawu Dauda as the first choice goalkeeper for Ghana.

The AshantiGold goalkeeper seems to have dethroned Adam Kwarasey as the no.1 choice after keeping the post in the three group matches at the Nations Cup for the Black Stars.

The 27-year-old has impressed at the Nations Cup – keeping two clean sheets out of the three matches played so far in South Africa.

Despite Dauda’s assured performances coach Appiah insists he still has a long way to go in becoming the first choice goalkeeper for Ghana.

“On the issue of Fatawu (Dauda) I think he is doing well but he has to work more to become a 100 percent no.1,” he said.

“To achieve that stance (no.1) is not easy and he needs to work more and these are some of the things we are pointing out to him.”

Dauda is expected to be in action on Saturday when the Black Stars face Cape Verde in the first quarter final game in Port Elizabeth.

A win will take Ghana closer to their aim of ending a 31-year wait for an African title in South Africa.

Let Kwarasey keep.. Dauda is just guess work.he dives the other way on a 30 yard free kick in the Mali match….he has only been lucky.. its not going to last forever …. he will let Ghana cry.. it will be too late

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

IF I AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT. KWARASAY NEEDS TO MOVE AWAY FROM NORWAY N TASTE BETTER COMPETITION. HE IS OUR FIRST CHOICE FOR BRAZIL DUE TO HIS OVERSEAS EXPERIENCE. THEN AGAIN, NO POSITION IS PERMANENT, EXCEPT GYAN. AND DATS BCOS HE HAS GREASED THE PALMS OF AA, HEAVY! SORCHEEEEEE!

      • truth says:

masa ka bio,Gyan’s position is cemented for good unless a more objective a nd bold coach takes over. Kwaresy is far better than this Dauda guy. See he poor the guys timing is.I bet you, Daniel Agyei can d far better than what Dauda is doing so far

        • Mojahadine says:

You guys are so right, Gyan has bribed all the BS staff and GFA. They are nothing but beggers, panhandlers to say the least. I don’t even understant the preparation in UAE but I can tell you guys that location choice has a reason for it. UAE was chosen to make all Gyan’s bribes and gifts easily accepted without the prying eyes of the public and the players.

kwarasey is been treated unfairly for the very same mistakes dauda is commiting fucking haters larson still number one

  3. Experience Coach says:

I think we (Ghanaians) are safe with Dauda because of his confidence in the post. Kwarasey has to be psyched up and gain some confidence. I dont think he is ready for this tournament.

  4. Kemp says:

Dauda 16 is da best …shut dat f*uk up haters ..

  6. Mustapha Slomo says:

Why mend what is not broken? Big up Dauda.

  7. staff says:

Larson is by far better than Dauda.Let get the friendly match play with Brazil in London, before we can see his virtues. He save all the shot on target by the then inform Ronaldiho and Hulk just to mention a few.

  8. Joojo says:

Dauda has really done well and deserves recommendation rather than scold him even the world best keepers make mistakes and Dauda is one of the outstanding goalkeepers in the tournament so where from all those descouraging comments? All haters will lie-low!!

  9. African Consciousness says:

Coach Appiah how do you expect the guy to give you a number one performance when you are telling the whole world that he is not fit to be number one. You have to be diplomatic. If the media asks you a stupid loaded question do not always answer them. You can evade that question by saying for example. He is my number one for now but he still has room to grow. By saying outright that he is not number one you are casting doubt in his mind and shaking his confidence something that you must never do to your players.

It seems you are an honest straight forward man but sometimes it is OK to sugar coat the truth a little so it is easier to swallow.
