Ghana defender Daniel Opare has admitted leaving Spanish giant Real Madrid was the ''wisest'' decision in his career.

The 21-year-old quit the Los Blancos last summer after two years of frustration in the youth side to sign a three-year deal with Belgian giants Standard Liege.

Opare has rediscovered his assertiveness since moving to Belgium and has emerged as one of the best full-backs in the Jupiler League with European clubs rumoured to be monitoring his progress.

The youngster came off the bench to earn his second cap during Tuesday's friendly against England and says his move to Belgium was timely and well-advised.

"I will say my move from Real Madrid is the wisest decision I have taken in my career and I’m happy I did that," Opare said. "It has given me another opportunity to showcase my talent and what I can do. It has also given me a new lease of life and I’m enjoying my stay here."
