The Ghana Football Association has handed a new two-year contract to coach Claude Le Roy to lead the Black Stars to the 2010 World Cup. (Send your e-mails, comments and news tips to: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The contract extension replaces the Frenchman's previous contract which was due to expire on June 30 this year.

The offer from the GFA was confirmed by Le Roy's agent Gael Mahe, who told AFP that the new deal is until June 30, 2010.

The contract extension was expected as the GFA spokesman Randy Abbey had given his unflinching support to the Frenchman in the wake of Ghana?s semi-final defeat at last month?s Africa Cup of Nations.

Le Roy has received several offers to coach national teams including Morocco and DR Congo but he is likely to accept the offer from the GFA.

Ghanasoccernet sources within the GFA say the Frenchman wants to appoint his own assistant, who is likely to be a foreigner in the absence of Sellas Tetteh, who has been appointed coach of the Black Satellites.

GFA members are reluctant to allow Le Roy to pick a foreign assistant because they think a local coach can comfortably fill that position.

Le Roy has been in charge of the Ghana national team since 2006.

His next mission is to lead the team to the 2010 African Nations Cup in Angola as well as the World Cup later the same year in South Africa.
