Togolese nationals celebrated Ghana's 1-0 victory against Angola in the African Cup of Nations quarter finals match, PANA reports.

Ghana defeated the hosts by a lone goal to qualify for the semi finals.

'We are virtually in the finals, this is our victory,' a jovial soccer fan, Lawson Jilles, 20, said in downtown Lome after the match.

The quarter-final match was closely watched in Lome, the Togolese capital, and when the final whistle was blown, celebrations ensued.

'Out you go Angola, you finished my team,' shouted a women in central Lome. 'This win against Angola compensates our loss,' said Titi Kossi, a Togolese soccer fan who managed to watch the match for only 35 minutes.

Togolese national team was forced to quit the Cup of Nations after the team was ambushed by gunmen in Cabinda, Angola.

'We were very angry that our team did everything to prepare for this champions hip in every domain to do better. We were very disappointed after that attack on our team. But this victory is our compensation,' said Kossi.

The Togolese team was training in Congo before the team travelled by bus to Cabinda.

Angolan rebel groups claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Angolan government sent a delegation to the state funeral for the two team officials who died in the 8 January attack in Cabinda.

The Team's deputy coach, Amelete Abalo, 55, and the team's press officer, Stanislas Ocloo, succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack, that was roundly condemned globally.

Ghana will meet the Nigeria on Thursday in the first semi-final match.
