Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko will open their title defence on Sunday at the Sunyani Coronation Park due to a home-match ban, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
The fixture, which was originally scheduled for the Baba Yara stadium, has been moved to the Brong Ahafo Regional capital as the Porcupine warriors serve the final of the three-match home ban imposed on them by the disciplinary committee last season.
Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association chairman revealed to GHANAsoccernet: “As the custodians of the Sunyani coronation park, my outfit has officially been notified by the Premier league board that the venue will play host to the opening league fixture between Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars.
“We have also confirmed the availability of the venue and as such the match is set to be played here with all the necessary measures being put in place to ensure an incident free game”.
Kotoko were handed the ban plus fines after supporters of the club displayed “unbridled acts of lawlessness” during their Premier League match against Medeama at the Baba Yara Stadium on 08 May, 2013.
